Better things to do with your time…

July 10th, 2007

So, the big thing now is the social networking stuff - facebook, twitter, myspace and all that jazz. Whilst you can still access these sites from work, the phrase social notworking could be used!

Are you a social notworking addict, or are you one of the few that use these sites, but not from work? Well, whilst this fad lasts, there will be debates running between friends as to whether these sites are good things or bad things, whether they contribute to society, or whether they contribute to the downward trend in old fashioned socialising. How many of you have got back in touch with friends of years ago because of these sites, and how many of you have only ‘added’ them as your friend? Have you actually spoken to these people? Are these sites purely a popularity contest? There are so may questions and opinions.

We want to start a campaign, and we want your help. The campaign for social notworking (suggestions for a more snappy name gratefully received) wants to make sure that social networking addiction is treated fairly.  Whilst we don’t want to stop people using these sites, it needs to be contained to the right time.  We work when we are supposed to, how many people are socially notworking?!
We want to provide a forum for discussions about anything relating to social networking, and it’s impact on the workplace, your social life and everything else.

We do not want to spoil anyones fun, but we do understand that everyone uses these sites differently. We want to know what you think. We want to hear your stories of whether you have got back in touch with anyone exciting, have you pulled as a result of these sites? We want to know how you hide your lack of work & use of these sites from your bosses.

Over the next few days, we will be publishing some areas that we think are a return to old fashioned values, and maybe a better use of time. We want to hear your ideas, we want your comments, we want your stories. Get in touch, tell your friends, come back!

Welcome…

Welcome to SocialNotworking.co.uk.  The idea behind this site is to offer some alternatives to those people who have been there, done that and got the t-shirt in terms of the whole social networking phenomena.

In the same way as smokers get away with working less than non-smokers due to their smoking breaks, those people developing addictions to social networking sites are working less, and notworking more!

Whilst some companies have blocked access to the popular social networking sites, there are still a large number of people that are able to use these sites from work, and waste time on these sites while you are working hard.

If you’re past caring about peoples myspace, or twittering on about facebook, then this site is for you.

It’s nothing personal against those who like to waste time on the social networking thing, and we’d be happy to include tips on here to disguise the time you spend on these sites from your boss.
